bridgtown ministries, portland OR

a couple of weekends ago, edwin and i got our first all nighter get away since tory was born.  we headed off to portland, OR to participate in a ministry called bridgetown.  unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures of what we did, so i thought i'd at least take pictures of some bridges! :) ha, ha!  edwin first participated in bridgetown with the highschoolers from our church.  bridgetown ministries takes jesus' example of ministering to the most needy and their physical needs, building relationships, and bringing them to know jesus.  in this case, every friday, they go below a bridge in portland, where there are a lot of homeless people and they offer food, a haircut, washing of their feet and an opportunity to shave.  they give away clothes, shoes, sock, etc. and mingle.  they do this every friday night, so many of the regular people who go have begun to get to know the homeless people pretty well.  i know of one couple that was even married by the pastor! :)  anyway, so edwin really enjoyed the experience and invited me to come with him. the original plan was for our small group to all go, but in the end none of them were able to go! but since we had already planned to stay at my uncle's house, and the pastor knew we were coming, edwin and i decided to go anyway. we had such a good time together.  we walked around downtown portland together, ate at a restaurant, and ended up at the church. so, here are some of the MANY bridges we went under or saw to get to portland! :)  

hace un par de semanas, edwin y yo tuvimos nuestro primer noche fuera SIN tory! :)  Fuimos a una ciudad llamada portland, en oregon que queda como a 4 horas de donde vivimos.  fuimos para participar en un ministerio llamado bridgetown (pueblo de puentes).  desafortunadamente, no nos dejaron tomar fotos de lo que hicimos ahi,  asi que tomé fotos de un montón de puentes! :) ja! ja!   edwin primero participó en este ministerio con el grupo de jóvenes de nuestra iglesia que fueron ahí a pricipios de abril. este ministerio lo que hace es tomar el ejemplo de jesús de ministrar a los más necesitados en sus necesidades físicas y formar amistades, llevandolos a conocer a jesús.  es éste caso van debajo de un puente en portland donde llegan muchos vagos que no tienen donde vivir y les ofrecen comida, un corte de pelo, les lavan los pies, les dan donde afeitarse y les ofrecen ropa, zapatos, calecetines y cosas así.  este ministerio hace esto todos los viernes y han podido conocer muy bien a muchos de los vagos.  hasta han casado a una pareja! :)  bueno, pues edwin tuvo una experience tan bonita que me invitó ir con él.  el plan original fue ir con nuestro grupo pequeño de la iglesia, pero por alguna razón u otra, nadie pudo ir! pero como edwin ya había arreglado con mi tío que nos quedaríamos con él y el ministerio ya sabía que íbamos a ír, así que decidimos ir de todas formas.  cuando llegamos a portland, edwin y yo caminamos por la ciudad de portland, comimos en un restaurante y terminamos en la iglesia.  tuvimos una experiencia bien bonita.  bueno, aquí están las fotos de unos de los MUCHOS puentes que pasamos en camino a portland! :)
